Huntingdale Wetlands

We were required to address flood mitigation challenges in the Huntingdale wetland’s that not only ensured infrastructure resilience but also enhanced pedestrian safety. By reactivating the spillway, we efficiently diverted water during flood events, significantly reducing the risk of flooding in the area. In addition, we eliminated manual handling tasks, streamlining operations, and improved overall safety. The new pedestrian walkway offered a safer, more accessible route, even in adverse weather conditions.

Challenges

  • Delays due to 2-3 days of floods over the work area.

  • Procurement of specialised concrete products within a limited time frame.

  • Minimising disturbance of the local flora and fauna.

  • Maintaining safe access for residents who utilise the area

Outcome

A well-finished result and minimal public disruption, as evidenced by no complaints from the community. Despite the challenges posed by site flooding and extreme temperatures exceeding 40°C, the clients were very pleased with the outcome. The completed footpath has significantly improved safety for crews responsible for cleaning the grates after flooding events, ensuring smoother and safer operations in the future.
